Say ‘Thank you to the Lord for being so good, for always being so loving and kind. Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others he has saved you from your enemies.’" Psalms 107:1-2

THANKSGIVINGS

This past Thursday was Thanksgiving and I know a lot of us had wonderful dinners surrounded by loving family. Perhaps you are one of the blessed ones this season, or perhaps you are not.

Society puts so much emphasis on the beauty, the warmth of the Norman Rockwell family, the season of shopping about to begin, but what does it all mean? NOTHING, WITHOUT LOVE!

To many, I am sure, it means loneliness, sadness, bitterness, family arguments and the list of oppressive feelings goes on endlessly.

I do not believe there is a Norman Rockwell family out there, but oh, how I wish there was. To relish in the warmth of such a home where all is bliss, no arguing, no drinking, no swearing, no pettiness, again the list goes on endlessly as to what transpires at many home settings over holidays.

Then, again, there are those who have no place to go and yearn for some of the above-mentioned "things" that make up a family. At least there would be life, and a spark of something there. No, the street person, the person locked up in prison, the lonely widow or widower,  and the mentally ill are lost in a hole in the net of society.

We are supposed to take care of each other, as really we are brother and sister, children of God. However, we drop the ball tremendously. I will not lecture on what you should do, you know what you should do this season and the rest of the days of the year ahead.

Reach out with warmth, friendliness; to someone you see that may need a kind remark. Do not be afraid to offer whatever you can to whomever you might see that needs "something." Rather you be turned down and or embarrassed then to pass by someone who needs YOU.

Be like a fisherman mending his nets; mend the nets of life of God’s children that have huge holes their nets. Offer to share what little or what "lot" you may have with someone else. Shout out to the world God has saved you, redeemed you, and filled you with love to share. You can do this quietly or "right out there," just do it!

Don’t wait for the rescue missions, churches, or other community organizations to do it all. Volunteer your time at places. However, don’t forget to look for the one who needs their net mended YOU just might meet as you journey this life. Maybe you can do something for someone, who needs help and love, a little bit more like "home," then the sources mentioned above. Don’t let another net go past you without mending it in whatever way you can.

May you carry the Thanksgiving and Christmas season in your heart, soul, and smile all year long.

God bless you and yours and please pray for me as I pray for you, my dear family of God.
